Henry was primarily unable to communicate his pain, horrors and experiences to his brother and family. His brother had been his primary confidant and friend with whom he shared his experiences and troubles. However, the war was so traumatizing that he finds it necessary to remain calm, aloof and in solitude, despite the efforts of his brother and his family to reach him. It is also evident that other changes are evident in terms of Henry’s character. Henry was initially a humorous and delightful individual. Lyman recalls Henry’s earlier character as a delightful individual who was slow to anger. This is comparable to the condition of the red Oldsmobile, which was new and able to tour round the American continent. Henry was initially full of energy and joyous in all his activities. Lyman narrates, â€Å"He’d always had a joke, then too, and now you could not get him to laugh† (Erdrich 936). His cheerful and witty nature is changed by the experiences in Vietnam. Lyman narrates that he was envious and delighted by the cheerful nature of his brother. Lyman longs for the earlier times when his brother was an individual with whom one could share ideas and spend a good time. Lyman recalls an event whereby Henry said to a longtime family friend named Suzy â€Å"Jump on my shoulders† (Erdrich 935). Henry swung her around such that her hair swayed from side to side with the blowing wind. The use of imagery is provided as a means of bringing out Henry’s earlier character as a cheerful individual who enjoyed life. His attempts at laughing are narrated by Lyman as â€Å"more like the sound of a man choking, a sound that stopped up throats of other people around him.† (935); this is an express indication of an individual who is filled with distress and despair in life. This is because of the trauma experienced at war. Lyman narrates that he viewed his brother bite his lip as he watched the colored television. Additionally, he struggled to stay still in the chair as he watched the television, which might have led him to recall the traumatizing events in Vietnam. This essay examines the actions of France, UK, USA and Canada following the financial crisis (Cornett et al., 2011). The U.S was worst hit by the financial crunch. The Bush Administration implemented some of the programs under TARP (Cornett et al., 2011). The Obama Administration carried on with the programs and added others (Dorsey, T. Sixth sense Essay The opening scenes of a film are really important because they grab the audiences attention so they keep watching it. The audience expect to see a super natural thriller were [c1]there is lots of dramatic irony were the audience has an idea what is going to happen next and the characters dont. The atmosphere is tense and it builds up to something exiting. The film is about a child cytologist[c2] that helps children with there[c3] problems and one of his old patients comes in and shoots him. The Sixth Sense [c4]is a super natural thriller[c5] we know this by the words Sixth Sense[c6]. The tone set in the opening scenes are [c7]really quite [c8]with little sounds in the background eg glass breaking. The title sequence [c9]is a white colour with a tint of blue and they started of [c10]really small and got larger and looked like they was[c11] coming towards you. Then after a few of seconds it disappeared. It sets a really tense atmosphere because they [c12]no it is going to be quite scary. The female woman is in the cellar to collect a bottle of wine to celebrate her husbands great achievement. The audience will know by this point that something might happen as it is dark and the camera shots are behind objects as if somebody is watching her. There are lots of different camera shots used in the opening scenes e. g. the panning shot were the woman is getting a bottle of wine and the camera is behind the wine rack and follows her down it. This is a sign that somebody could be watching her closely and following her. There are a few background sounds in this scene were it sounds like somebodys stood on a peace [c13]of glass which is called diegetic sound. The start of the scene is were the little filament in a light bulb lights up but does not light up the bulb then a couple of seconds later the bulb lights up and brightens the cellar up a bit. [c14] In the previous scene its [c15]in the cellar were its[c16] dark and dirty and the woman gets a bit frightened and rushes out. The next bit is zooming in on all the nice warm candles and beautiful cards. The whole point in this is to make the audience think that everything is alright and they are going to be safe because of the nice orangey candles making the room feel warm. The camera shots are really important in films because they can show you what is happening e. g. were the cytologist and his wife is [c17]together and the camera is quite close up to them. This could be showing that they are together and have a good relationship. The lighting is nice and warm to make the audience think everything is alright. The music is diegetic and could show that something is about to happen. [c18] The audience need to understand that the man and the woman are together and there relationship is strong. The scene in the bedroom begins when they are taking there cloths of and laughing and it was [c19]quite dark. The camera shots was [c20]quite close up (medium close up). The characters are behaving in a giddy way. The last camera shot on the woman is were she is looking at the man and starts to turn around then goes back onto the man and he is smiling then all of a sudden his face was in shock. Then the camera looked at the woman and she was looking down on the floor and the camera moved down and was a close up of all the glass. The audience find out there is an intruder when the man and woman are looking at the broken glass [c21]a shadow moves along the wall and the woman gets really scared. The audience now no something bad is going to happen. The intruder is revealed by a long camera shot that is pointing down and walking around the corner and when u see his feet it starts moving up his body to reveal his face. [c22] The music dialogue[c23] creates tension, before and after the intruder appears the [c24]music is really slow and makes you think somethings going to happen and when the camera looks[c25] at the intruder it gets louder. The intruder does not say anything to the man he just turns around picks up the gun and shoots the man then the camera starts to move away and the intruder shoots himself in his head. [c26] The director is trying to create frightening and tense opening scenes. He wants the audience to be frightened and scared. I thought it was effective because it is supposed to be a supernatural thriller and it was so I think it was very effective. Boot camp is an alternative to incarceration. In this paper I will prove that Boot Camps for youthful offenders are effective. Boot camps started in the year 1888 by Warden Zebulon Brockway at the Elmira Reformatory located in Elmira, New York. The warden did this because he wanted to invoke a new way of disciplining and keeping the inmates active. The reasoning that this style of imprisonment worked was because there were virtually no prison guards which saved thousands of dollars. Another reason that it worked was because the men would work day and night producing quality goods that were much less then the competitors. Yates Law prohibited the inmates from competing in the open market which eventually lead to the end of the military like structure. Another reason for and end of this type of incarceration was due to World War I. Prior to the war local citizens were invited to the facility to witness the military like drills and ceremonies. As soon as the war ended the people didnâ €™t like the military which shut down the program.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The United States Army used basic training to rehabilitate soldiers who committed crimes. They used this system because prisons were overcrowded and very expensive. This way reduced the cost and allowed the return of 42,000 soldiers into active duty.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  In 1965 shock incarceration was developed in Ohio. This was an attempt to â€Å"shock† inmates by making them think twice about what they were going to do. The length the incarceration was on for 90-180 days. An analysis of the program in Ohio proved to be successful. There was a 130 percent less recidivism then those with prior records.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  In Kentucky they had the highest rates of rearrest, reconviction and the return to prison. There reincarceration rare was only 21.4 percent. This was consistent with the finking form other shock probation programs that were heralded as effective (Vito and Ellis).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The First Juvenile boot camp was established in 1985 in Orleans Parish, Louisiana. After care is now one of the steps in a successful program. This seems to be the key when wanting to help and lower the rate of recidivism.
